Welcome, and thank you for visiting Notes from a GP.

Hello and welcome.

I’m Dr Maria Carrasco, a GP with more than 25 years of experience in Primary Care.

Medicine has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father was a GP and I grew up watching the impact that a trusted family doctor could have on people’s lives. That early exposure inspired me to study medicine and eventually pursue a career in General Practice.

Over the years I have had the privilege of caring for thousands of patients and their families, often across multiple generations. Alongside my clinical work, I have enjoyed teaching medical students and supporting healthcare professionals in their training and development.

This blog was born from a desire to write again.

After a particularly challenging period in both my professional and personal life, I found myself reflecting on medicine, family, ageing, resilience and what really matters. Writing became a way of making sense of those experiences and creating space for new conversations.

Here you will find a mixture of personal reflections, stories from a lifetime in medicine and practical health information. Some posts will explore life beyond the consulting room, whilst others will focus on topics such as lifestyle medicine, prevention and helping people make informed decisions about their health.

My approach to healthcare has always been rooted in listening, understanding the whole person and recognising that health is about much more than the absence of disease. I have a particular interest in lifestyle medicine and the role that nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management and human connection play in long-term wellbeing.

Alongside my writing, I am Clinical Director and Co-Founder of Trinity Medical GP Clinic in Carshalton Beeches, where I continue to practise medicine with a strong focus on personalised, relationship-based care. You can find out more about the clinic at trinity medical gp.co.uk

I hope you find something here that informs, reassures, challenges or simply makes you pause for thought.

Thank you for reading.

Maria
